Maternity Swimwear - What to Look Out For

Maternity swimwear are great for keeping fit, keeping cool in the heat, taking on holidays and for swimming lessons with younger children.  But what are my options???

The most popular swimsuit is, of course, the maternity tankini but you can also still get you hands on a one-piece suit for the serious swimmer.  Just a reminder that a two piece is handy for any toilet breaks you may need during pregnancy which is usually more often than normal.

Available styles include:

  • the halter neck;
  • the racer back or crossover straps;
  • over the shoulder straps - some being adjustable;
  • double shelf bra;
  • chlorine resistant;
  • maternity boardshort;
  • rollover bikini bottom;
  • drawstring bikini bottom; and
  • boy leg bottom.

Generally, size works the same as your pre-pregnancy size and your maternity tankini top consists of no underwire to avoid any pressure on breast tissue.

Make sure when you try your maternity bathers they are firm but not too tight.  Remember that bathers always relax a little after a few wears and you don't want them to become too lose.  When trying your bathers, make sure that you leave your underwear on the bottom for hygiene purposes but you should remove your maternity bra to make sure you have the breast support you need.

Once you are happy with the style, cut and fit of your new maternity swimwear you will get great enjoyment out of them in the hot weather on holiday or at your local pool for yoga classes or swimming lessons with younger children.
